Paper Abstract:
|
This paper is a report that presents a method of teaching using e-learning system to hard-of-hearing (HoH) students. Deaf
students need many communication methods for learning, including sign language, lip reading, and writing and each is
different. Deaf students also usually need special educational materials and an environment for deaf or HoH students. Our
educational materials are composed of e-Learning systems and web contents that are used in the classroom with a system
using double monitors to convey information to the students. We designed educational materials and a classroom to
satisfy the following requirements. 1. Deaf or HoH students can grasp the whole lesson and the present position. 2. They
can learn by themselves and at their own pace. 3. They can use the system any time or anywhere. 4. They can repeatedly
watch the teacher demonstrating operation with explanations. 5. They can choose the information they need. 6. They can
stop the instruction freely and restart it. 7. The teachers can know the study situations of each student. We evaluated the
materials by questionnaires. The educational materials with multimedia technology were highly evaluated by the
students. We could investigate the relation between the learning situation and educational effectiveness. Our educational
materials on e-Learning system and our educational environment for a classroom were not special, but they were very
effective for HoH students. |
