Paper Abstract:
|
E-government can provide various benefits: transparency, competitiveness, delivery of services, diminished corruption, among others. This paper intends to verify this affirmation by using independent databases published by worldwide recognized authorities on these domains. Data was collected from various databases readily available on the Internet: Doing Business 2010 Report and United Nations E-Government Survey 2008, Global Competitiveness Report 2009-2010 by the World Economic Forum, Corruption Perception Index (CPI 2009) by Transparence International and World Bank Entrepreneurship Survey 2008. After a data compilation that joined all the databases, significant correlations were found between e-government readiness and doing business easiness, competitiveness, corruption and entrepreneurship suggesting that countries that have a more complete e-government indeed profit from a better and more dynamic business environment. A framework of possible e-government impacts on private sector is presented, along with the proposed relationships. Practical implications and the need of an integrated implementation strategy are also discussed. |
