Paper Abstract:      In just 15 years since it was launched commercially, the Internet has changed the everyday behavior of consumers and the business strategies of many producers. Indeed, commerce has changed in unimaginable ways as it is now possible to search, purchase and sell just about anything over the Internet. With the emergence of electronic commerce, national statistical agencies began to devise concepts and methods to measure such activity. This paper presents the most recent estimates of electronic commerce transactions by Canadian businesses and concludes by raising important research issues. For example, although online sales continue to increase at a double-digit pace in Canada, there has been some concern as to why e-commerce uptake appears to be relatively slow.
