Paper Abstract:
|
In this paper, we present an interactive computer supported collaborative learning experience that has been carried out for
supporting the dissemination of 3D computer graphics and Web Virtual Reality technology within the context of primary
education. Desktop Virtual Reality, Web-based and low cost third party 2D and 3D technologies have served as platforms
for developing the learning experiences. These technologies have been used to stimulate individuals enhancing their
digital technical skills fluency; improve spatial thinking, writing, researching and communication abilities; understand
and apply information visualization concepts and resources in active way through building three-dimensional virtual
environments within an interdisciplinary view point. This interdisciplinary view point has encompassed approximating
individuals from sciences, technology, art and culture while they have shared knowledge and developed innovative and
transformative mental attitudes necessary for the citizens in the third millennium. The results have been approximating
primary and high education; improving primary studentsÂ’ autonomy for dealing with digital web-based technologies and
producing their own applications; using information and communication technology for learning and producing
meaningful school curriculum content in a creative way; and sharing the 3D web-based knowledge developed beyond the
school environment, bringing about individualsÂ’ transformative and innovative lifelong learning attitudes. |
