Paper Abstract:
|
Evaluation of teaching and learning software is critical in evaluating how to best deploy scarce resources. Yet many times university students use educational software in unexpected ways that are not detected by traditional evaluation methods. We take a process-oriented approach that explores how students use educational technology and is independent of a priori hypotheses and expectations. Specifically, we examine how learning goals can be inferred from student behavior, and how students use educational technology to fulfill their learning goals. The results can sometimes be surprising! In this paper we reflect on our experiences using this kind of evaluation and discovery over a variety of different kinds of software. |
