Paper Abstract:      Data from ten candidates in a teacher preparation program studying methods of instruction were analyzed to determine perceptions toward social education digital learning games. Preservice candidates were more comfortable using games in the classroom as a result of multiple exposures to game play in varied roles (as student, as teacher, and as peer). Candidates recognized how games were connected to the core content curriculum in ways that are meaningful to current students, who indicate a preference for hands-on, interactive instructional methods. This research can be used as a conceptual model of how current candidates react to new methods of instruction. This may inform teacher educators how to change their existing curricula to better prepare their students toward methods that have the ability to evoke higher-order thinking skills while integrating technology into the curriculum.
