Paper Abstract:
|
Decision support systems used by health care providers are crucial for diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients. Despite such significance, the practical achievements of such systems fall well below expectations. This article therefore explains how these systems perform practically during situations in which complex patient conditions are increasingly managed by interdepartmental patient pathways. Empirically, we report from a project designing and implementing a decision-support tool for selecting elderly patients in the acute department for further treatment in the acute geriatric unit of a university hospital. |
