Paper Abstract:
|
Research suggests that tele-monitoring systems will play a central role in medicine, especially in controlling chronic diseases from home. Flexibility, extensibility and interoperability are required characteristics for these systems to become widespread in all medical institutions. However, systems should also be customized to fit the patient and doctors needs and run on existing technology. In this paper (a) we analyze the major constraints involving tele-monitoring systems for chronic diseases, (b) we argue why monitoring should be performed locally using the tele-monitoring device capabilities and a canonical knowledge model, and (c) we propose a framework that can be adopted by existing health institutions. The framework allows customization according to the doctor's needs, the patient's existing information at the institution and available technology. |
