Paper Abstract:
|
When designing icons for global enterprise software many challenges are encountered. Icons can easily be misinterpreted when the designer and user have differing cultural backgrounds. The purpose of this study is to determine the cultural implications of icon interpretations by users in various regions around the world. This study is used to validate current icon designs and their ability to convey meaning to users of varying cultural backgrounds. In studying a select group of representative icons from our software, we were able to determine which of our icons were globally understood and accepted by our users. |
