Paper Abstract:      Ubiquitous computing concept was introduced by Weiser in 1991. Since then, advances have been made in computational development from traditional PC to wearable computing and embedded computation. Context-aware environments will become truly proactive and will allow the user to concentrate on tasks and activities with no concern for the computing resources and tools needed to perform them. This work presents an architecture, currently in development, to manage the context information and user preferences based on ontologies, component oriented architectures and machine learning techniques. The architecture will allow the development of context-aware applications for the home environment that will adjust it proactively depending on the user preferences. This kind of application will contribute to the development of ambient assisted living and therefore to the improvement of quality of life.
