Paper Abstract:
|
User-interfaces for human communication have been attributed to have considerable effects on their users, also from a
psychological perspective. This study attempted to measure stress in relation to typing in a text-based interface. The
number of characters available to complete a memory task was varied in order to create two experimental conditions. It
was hypothesized that a constrained text-interface would lead to higher levels of stress compared to an unconstrained
interface. The results supported the hypothesis, but also reveal significant gender differences in stress reaction to the
manipulation. |
