Paper Abstract:      Accurate estimate of task resource demands is crucial for managing and planning resources and tasks in various computer systems. This paper suggests a new approach that provides initial estimate of the resource demands for a given task with any background loading of the computer system. We introduce the notion of work gradient matrix which is an invariant for specific configuration of computer system. Any work done by computer system considered as a path in the potential field of resources. The estimation of a task resource demands is done by building the task work path for one fixed background loading and approximating the task resource consumption for any background loading, based on the work gradient matrix. The paper also discusses implementation aspects of building work gradient matrix and task work path.
