Paper Abstract:
|
Planning of the IT infrastructure needed to support the emerging digital enterprises is a challenging task due to the
numerous difficult decisions that have to be made quickly and correctly. Traditional IT planning that rely on largely
manual activities are not adequate to meet the ever-changing demands of the digital enterprises. This paper describes a
computer aided planning environment that uses ontologies, business patterns, best practices, and inferences to quickly
recommend the IT infrastructure for the next generation of digital enterprises. This Web-based environment consists of a
set of intelligent advisors that collaborate with each other in a fashion similar to a team of consultants who guide the user
through an extensive array of choices. Instead of focusing on one aspect, the tool walks the users through the intricacies
of application planning, computer platform planning, network planning, and security planning by invoking different
advisors that work with each other to develop an integrated IS plan. |
