Paper Abstract:      E-health and telemedicine have had limited success across the EU, but using online social networking to support a community of practice may enable a sustainable healthcare community. Technology dependent children require a great deal of support, and those who care for them often work in isolation, with limited training, often not medical professionals but parents and extended families, school teachers, volunteers in youth clubs, drama clubs, early years settings, or workers in leisure centres, holiday playschemes etc. Many of these carers have little communication between them, and Web2.0 offers the potential to provide them with social and professional links. This paper outlines stage one of a project to implement a technology enabled community of practice for health professionals and carers working with children and young people with technology dependent health care needs.
