Paper Abstract:      The data object is considered to be one of the fundamental components of today's Internet. As a direct consequence of the increasingly distributed manner in which it is being stored, processed, and replicated, there exists the need to develop innovative consistency management techniques. In this paper, CODe (Consistent Object Detection), a novel algorithm which guarantees the consistency of data as it travels through the Internet, is proposed. The approach taken views data in an implementation-independent manner. This represents a significant departure from current research efforts, and facilitates the algorithm's usefulness in a variety of scenarios. Two correctness criteria, termed Self and Temporal consistency are presented, providing a clear and concise definition of consistent data. A detailed description of the algorithm is given, together with an outline of its operation in the context of the World-Wide-Web. Finally, the paper concludes by discussing future research direction.
