Paper Abstract:
|
Citizen journalism has an unmatched ability to promote activism and give a voice to minority communities and opinion groups. Since mainstream media often does not give a voice to smaller or disenfranchised groups, it is necessary that these citizens be given a way to voice their concerns and be a part of the larger societal conversation. Citizen journalism has done an excellent job of filling this gap, since it allows virtually anyone to document what they see or bring attention to issues that are affecting them or their communities. However, there are several issues brought up by the citizen journalism, including its use in crisis response and a lack of factual integrity and ethics training. |
