Paper Abstract:
|
We live in a time in which the interaction with computers is a daily and almost natural activity. However, there are many cases in which the human-computer interaction is not easy or almost impossible. The use of personalize interfaces together with the development of intelligent tutors could facilitate the integration of computers in many areas of social interest. In this paper, we are going to explain briefly some methods, algorithms and social applications in which the use of customized avatars could be applied. An avatar is the representation of a figure or face that interacts with the computer user. A 3D-avatar is used as the interface in charge of giving advice to the user, motivating and guiding him or her during the computer interaction. Up to now, 3D avatars are mainly used as funny gadgets to distract or amuse the computer user. Nowadays, the personalization of avatars by using 3D laser scans is expensive and not easily affordable. This paper deals with a work in progress that has the aim of developing a technology that facilitates the construction of customized low-cost 3D avatars. Getting results in this field will provide a solution in different fields as it is illustrated in the two case studies presented in this paper. |
