Paper Abstract:
|
Statistics explored during a background study indicated that Social Media (SM) systems are growing at a remarkably fast rate. The expansion of these systems leads to the addition and inclusion of more features. The inclusion of these features is done on a continuous basis, utilizing existing technologies. This paper presents SM as an alternate platform to be used for Knowledge Management (KM) practices in higher education environments. The capability to gather information and put it to use for the right purpose at the right time is critical for any organizational competitive advantage. The researchers are currently conducting a case study in the Higher Education Institutional (HEI) field regarding KM maturity as well as the understanding and application thereof. SM is the gateway to online information contributions, and Living Labs (LLs) allow people a platform for interaction between large and diverse communities which hold expert tacit knowledge. The Web links people, information, knowledge and knowledge objects and annotations with each other. It is of extreme importance to realize what SM systems can provide, and how people use them, in order to apply it correctly for a specific intended KM use. LL tools and techniques make social interaction on the Web extremely efficient. A LL approach makes real life collaborative development platforms possible, through the amalgamation of diverse networks which include experts. This paper explores the whole knowledge process, encapsulated in a LL supported by SM platforms. |
