Paper Abstract:
|
This paper describes stage one of the development and implementation of a learning tool using Augmented Reality (AR) to support the cultural sustainability of the Nyungar people of Western Australias South Western corner. Place narratives are central to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and knowledge and this tool has been developed to support non-Aboriginal first year Health Science students to gain an understanding of the importance of place and its critical role in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples health and wellbeing. Personal, cultural and historical Nyungar narratives of place have been gathered, curated and mapped to the Perth metropolitan area via an AR platform. Stage two of the project will involve the implementation of the learning tool in March 2012, which will allow students to access Nyungar place narratives via an AR application on their mobile phones. |
