Paper Abstract:      Several works have developed the Emergency Department (ED) crowding and were mostly in agreement with the fact that it reflects an international crisis. Throughout this work, we performed a robust fuzzy multi-criteria evaluation which gives a crisp number assessing the crowding level in the Emergency Department (ED) from three input variables. They were collected each one-hour interval over six months from January to June 2011 in the Pediatric ED “Jeanne de Flandre” of The Regional University Hospital of Lille (France). These three inputs are: the Occupancy Rate, The Patients per attending Physicians and The Acuity Ratio. Our approach was programmed into a software which may help experts in the ED to understand the progress of this phenomenon thanks to graphical representations and help them to act and anticipate disorganizations. This study is a part from a national French project TecSan2011-HOST aiming to control flow in Emergency Department (ED), to evaluate and to anticipate ED crowding mainly in pediatric ED (PED).
