Paper Abstract:      The study investigates the sixty seven small and medium organizations in Brunei Darussalam within the context of information technology (IT) strategic planning process. These surveyed SMEs are familiar with IT strategy basic methods but they do not use any one of them either fully or partially. The study results reveal that Bruneian SMEs are not fully utilizing any of the basic IT strategic development process however, only three methods are found to have indirect influence on IT strategy development: Critical success factors, transaction cost, and balanced score card. Conclusion from these findings further suggests that no statistical difference exists among SMEs on the basis of organization size and industry sector. Based upon the results some recommendations were made for the relevant authorities.
