Paper Abstract:
|
The need to tackle social exclusion and social deprivation has been an important strand of the UK Governments policies since the 1990s, and the role of technology has been focussed on as one means of reducing social exclusion, making public and other services more accessible. Since 2000 this has been demonstrated by the UK Governments drive for electronic Government (or e-government) and Local Authority Councils by setting targets for the delivery of electronic access to their services. In the National Strategy for Local e-government published in 2002 one of the access channels that local authorities are expected to address is the implementation of one-stop-shops. This paper outlines the key findings of the recent study in identifying critical success factors of community based information centres, and their role within local e-government strategies. The levels of stakeholder knowledge, skill and appropriate education playing a crucial role in effective take up and improved accessibility. |
