Paper Abstract:
|
In this paper we present how service oriented architectures can be applied to the domain of medical equipment management. For this domain in hospitals results of a technical requirement analysis exist that, as we argue, indicate that SOA can serve as ideal basis for addressing major pain-points. It significantly can improve the situation of today by introducing integration and automation on the system level. The paper details the domain requirements and demonstrates how these can be addressed practically by using the JBoss Enterprise Service Bus in a service-oriented manner. Thereby, a new level of integration and interoperability between hospitals, IT system vendors and device manufacturers is created. The focus of the paper is not on the technical details of the SOA but on the consequences for the design of integration architectures in general for this particular domain. Enterprise Service Bus technology plus the application of Business Process Modeling then serves as an example for how an implementation can be realized. However, the approaches presented in this paper are not limited to the medical equipment domain per se but are general enough to be applicable to other (medical) domains, as well. |
