Paper Abstract:      The changing structure of society and economy has prompted a need for development of skills in support of life-long learning. There is a need for learners to become aware of their learning and to be empowered to initiate their own direction and responsibility over their learning futures. The benefits of reflection in learning are seen as one of the key areas in the development of the skills for life-long learning. The weblog has emerged as a means of facilitating those with little or no technical knowledge to publish on the web (Blood, 2000). This research focuses on using the weblog as a tool to equip students with higher order reflection skills that would benefit not just the learning of information technology skills but also their future learning in other areas. The case study presented here involved students being introduced to the concept of reflection in order to gradually establish a reflective practice throughout the weeks of a project. The weblog was promoted as a tool for reflection with the students. This process and environment was then evaluated by means of analysing the reflective weblogs, observations of the mentors, questionnaires and interviews. The feedback from this study is encouraging, indicating that the weblog could be a useful tool to foster and promote reflection in learning. Recommendations are made in relation to future work and research in the use of weblogs for the purpose of reflection.
