Paper Abstract:
|
This research is motivated by an interest in the challenges that inclusive design presents in multimedia development, in particular, designing for visually impaired users. An existing web site was evaluated by range of impaired and non-impaired users and redesigned to attempt to meet the needs of these two groups. The redesigned site was evaluated again by a range of users and this highlighted a number of technical and accessibility issues. A series of guidelines for website developers was created linking accessibility guidelines and standards to technical advice on making a site accessible. Multimedia tools are constantly being updated to address accessibility and so the recommendations could be extended with more evaluation of and research into accessibility methods. |
