Paper Abstract:
|
Increased availability of portable computer and media devices equipped with various connection facilities enhances interconnectivity within Technology Intensive Collaborative Learning environments and thus demands a shift in underlying pedagogical models. An Interactions-oriented model is proposed based on a Constructionist epistemology. Typologies of interactions are identified along three dimensions Domain, Technology and Community and across three pedagogical levels Learning from Others, Learning with Others and Mediating others Learning. This paper focuses on one particular TICLE, Co-operative group-based gaming. From the proposed model, three factors are chosen - Personality Traits, Gaming competence and adopted gaming roles. The influence of these variables on Task and Person oriented interactions was investigate using a sample of college students. Personality dimensions were established through the Myer-Briggs instrument. Categories of interactions were quantified through analysis of video recordings. Data analysis of Personality dimensions, gaming competence and manifested gaming roles as independent variables and Task/Person oriented interactions as dependent variables enabled the development of an interactions profile for each personality dimension. Implications of such profiling method are discussed in relation to designing collaborative learning environments, adaptivity and game design. |
