Paper Abstract:      Recently health information has been utilized by many people to improve the quality of their life. Most health information is buried in the WWW (World Wide Web). It only can be accessed from a fixed location using a computer connected to the Internet. This paper proposes a voice-based health information retrieval application by wired (or wireless) telephone to solve this accessibility problem. The source is from a web site managed by the Korean government to provide reliable information. Our application has two engines; Automatic SVAT (Semantic Voice Anchor Tagging) engine and Search HI (Health Information) engine. The Automatic SVAT creates a semantic voice anchor and index table to assist Search HI retrieve web resources and ontology information in the Speech Web environment. The semantic voice anchor is a key role of the application. It is embedded in a VXML document linked to a health ontology defined to include disease and human body information in Korean. Thus, the user can request specific disease information in the health ontology in the midst of listening to health information. In the experimental results, we confirmed that the proposed system allows the user to search health information more effectively with higher satisfaction. Also, we verify the enrichment of ontology increases the system’s capacity.
