Paper Abstract:
|
An Empirical Study to investigate the efficiency of Static, Adaptable, Adaptive, and Mixed-initiative environments in ecommerce.
This paper introduces an empirical study for investigating the use of four interaction conditions: Static,
Adaptable, Adaptive, and Mixed-initiative. The study is aimed at comparing the efficiency of these four conditions with
regard to task accomplishment time and frequency of error-occurrence. In order to carry out this comparative
investigation, four experimental interfaces were built separately. These environments were tested independently by four
separate groups, consisting of 15 users for each. The results showed that the Mixed-Initiative condition was the best in
terms of efficiency and frequency of error-occurrence. The adaptable condition was faster than the Adaptive at the
learnable tasks but not with the searching tasks. Furthermore, it shows that the Static condition was found to be less
effective than the other conditions in terms of efficiency and frequency of error-occurrence. |
