Paper Abstract:      Distributing news online has a very important impact on the traditional news cycle, the business model, the work of journalists and the role of traditional news consumers among the general public. Implicit geographical information contained on these newspapers can be helpful to detect some orientation and to know in which places of the world the online newspapers are focus on. In this paper we focus on a space-time analysis of the covers of some of the most important online newspapers in the world in order to provide new way to discover information and visualize it. The newspapers selected are the New York Times (USA), Le Monde (France), Morgen (Belgium), ABC (Spain), Haberturk (Turkey), Tages Anzeiger (Swiss), Dagens Hyheter (Sweden), Telegraph (United Kingdom), Jornal de Noticias (Portugal), AD (Netherlands), Irish Examiner (Ireland), Gulf News (Arab Emirates), The Times of India (India), Haaretx (Israel), Asahi (Japan), La Razón (Argentina) and The Times (South African). In this way, this article explores new ways to analyse and visualize online newspaper covers in a map. Our approach is based on the use of a Geoparsing Web Service to extract geographic coordinates from the online covers. Once geographic coordinates are extracted by using eXtensible Markup Language (XML) we draw the geo-positions and link the documents into a map image in order to visualize the extracted information.
