Paper Abstract:
|
As the largest self-built 3D social virtual world to date, Second Life offers a unique opportunity to understand distributed
co-creation on the future web. The main findings are as follows:
1. Distributed Co-creation (DCC) is still limited to less than 10% of the Second Life members, but the major
bottleneck for participation is awareness.
2. Three statistically different clusters of DCC motivations exist. Social motives outpace pure financial motives.
3. The propensity to co-create is linked to those motivation clusters. The socially driven segment has a higher
proportion of co-creators. |
