Paper Abstract:
|
In the battlefield, warfighters are exposed to a variety of emotionally charged situations. However, current virtual environment training applications do not ensure exposure to emotional stressors, limiting the warfighters’ ability to develop effective coping strategies prior to experiencing them in the real world. The herein-described Adaptive Framework For Emotionally Charged Training – Development and Execution (AFFECT-D/X) addresses this gap by supporting the development and execution of adaptive training that creates emotionally relevant training conditions within VE platforms while taking into account trainee performance. The goal of the system is to create adaptive training conditions that ensure that the warfighters are better prepared for actual battlefield conditions and training transfer is increased. This paper provides an overview of the approach, a summary of the theoretical framework being used for emotion detection and induction, and a status update of the ongoing development effort. |
