Paper Abstract:
|
Adaptive screen sampling that allows to yield an image by calculating a volume integral for just a part of pixels is one of volume rendering acceleration methods. This method is efficient if source data is highly coherent. The efficiency of the method decreases rapidly as source data coherence decreases. We propose a modification of the above-mentioned method that makes it less dependent on source data coherence. The modified method is a two-pass one. On the first pass, performed for only a part of pixels, volume integral values for the set of intervals where the transfer function value is not zero are calculated and saved to the G-buffer. On the second pass, these volume integral values are used for fast calculation of the remaining pixelsÂ’ colors. This method allows to increase the speed of the standard adaptive screen sampling method by 1,6 times on the average, depending on the source data. |
