Paper Abstract:
|
In the traditional multi-resolution texture mapping technology of the large-scale terrain, the resolution of the terrain
texture is only decided by the distance between this terrain and the eye point. But the excessive gradient in some subdomain
will lead to the texture of this sub-domain is so expanded that its resolution reduces. To overcome this problem,
we propose a Topography Gradient Measurement method and a Texture Scheduling method. On the process of rendering,
we calculate the gradient of every terrain tile. If the gradient value is large enough, we change the original texture to our
improved texture. Based on the two methods we propose a set of adaptive multi-resolution texture mapping mechanism,
which can fast and accurately ascertains the excessive gradient region and real-time regulates the texture in the memory.
Experimental result shows that our adaptive method finely enhances the fidelity of the virtual terrain in the premise of
tiny affecting the rendering speed. |
