Paper Abstract:
|
Academic standards-based and culturally responsive teaching research have shown that educators can no longer tolerate low achievement scores, student and teacher boredom, high dropout rates, and apathy toward learning and school by many students. Highly effective teachers communicate with and understand their students by creating contexts and classroom environments in which power is shared with students. This investigation employed: (1) thematic content analysis of national level documents; and (2) interviews with parents, school personnel and students to identify, describe, and provide insight into classroom and school practices that accompany high pass rates on state mandated proficiency tests. In addition, conclusions and implications for high quality educators wishing to improve their students achievement are provided. |
