Paper Abstract:      The SWANS (Semantic Web Accessibility Network Services) is a research project which addresses issues related to the immobility of people who have visual impairment (VI’s). Its aim is to resolve these issues by deploying the Semantic Web Services(SWS). We have designed and developed a prototype namely Smarttraveller using Microsoft Visual studio 2005 in C # ( C sharp) language at Microsoft Dot Net Framework 2.0 (MDNF 2.0). In this prototype, we have designed and developed web services (WS) for VI’s to assist them while accessing its contents. Microsoft accessibility classes were used to provide a speech facility to VI’s. It is a common practice for VI’s to use commercially available screen readers or magnifiers to read or magnify the contents on the computer screen, but with this specifically designed prototype they do not have to use any adaptive software to read or magnify the contents of this prototype. This paper presents a demonstration to design an accessible web application for visually impaired users. It can help Web designers and developers while working in Web publishing industry to catch many of the technical errors that could lead to accessibility faults, when designing accessible Web applications.
