Paper Abstract:      In recent years there has been a growing interest in embedded systems. A system is said to be embedded if it is part of a more complex system. Today, embedded systems are everywhere. To keep them as small as possible (cost reduction, low current consumption,...), embedded systems have to use as less resources as possible. Most embedded systems are based on a microcontroller system, which has few resources. Hence the programs that run on such systems also have to be efficient and small. This paper explores a way to give programmers of embedded systems a useful software architecture to develop portable real time applications. We present a 100% portable, extremely small operating system, written in pure ANSI-C.
