Paper Abstract:      In this study, the VoIP (Voice of IP) roaming in the cross campus WLAN environment within ENUM (E.164 number) mechanism is proposed. When a teacher or student hopes to use the VoIP service in the WLAN campus environment, he just needs to have one authorization in both the WLAN connection and the VoIP usage account. Before this mechanism is starred using, although the WLAN roaming environment has established in more than one hundred and fifty universities or campuses in Taiwan, the user still needs to apply the different account from the one for the WLAN connection to use the VoIP service. We propose using the ENUM mechanism in the SIP (Session Initial Protocol) VoIP environment to combining with the AAA radius server to achieve the VoIP service roaming in those one hundred and fifty WLAN campuses. In this mechanism, the feature of the ENUM characteristic that one ENUM number can forward the phone to the local call, the long-distance call, the mobile phone, or the voice mail also can be achieved. People use their own ENUM number to connect the internet and be the VoIP phone number. The ENUM number in the WLAN roaming environment passes through the radius server to communicate with the ENUM server for the authorization of the user’s account. People can straight obtain the convenience of the VoIP roaming..In this architecture, the two WLAN connection methods using the public IP and the private IP (NAT) have been successfully experimented, respectively. This service trial is sponsored by the National Telecommunication Program (NTP) of National Science Council (NSC) in Taiwan. Till now, there are more than 25,000 users have registered the ENUM number to test this trial.
