Paper Abstract:      In Japan, the number of children using the Internet has been increasing. With the increase, the number of children experiencing problems related to Social Networking Service (SNS) has significantly increased. Therefore, education to prevent children from such problems are strongly required. Experiencing actual behaviors is an effective way to learn correct attitudes and develop a better sense of awareness. We have developed a PC-based communication system that allows children to easily use the SNS and realize the risks and dangers of using such platforms in school education settings. A server function and a wireless LAN access point function of the system are implemented with a laptop computer. This system can be easily set up and used in places where the Internet access is not provided. We implemented a practical lesson for a special-needs school that teaches students how to safely use SNS. The results show that simulated experiences of posting content via SNS using our system caused students to have an increased interest in learning and helped them to better understand the appropriate awareness, attitudes, and behaviors for using SNS. Furthermore, according to a survey conducted approximately one month after the experiment, the students retained the knowledge on how to handle personal information and minimize the dangers of using SNS that they learned during the lesson, suggesting a long-term effect from this approach.
