Paper Abstract:
|
The wireless network discovery phase is essential to enable seamless vertical handover. Current proposals to discover networks and their capabilities (e.g., bandwidth, QoS, security levels) use request messages in a centralized or distributed fashion, in order to query an information service such as the MIIS (Media Independent Handover Information Service). However, these solutions are not efficient or robust. This paper proposes and evaluates a Peer-to-Peer collaborative approach in which mobile terminals can exchange visited networks information. The proposal can either substitute or complement the traditional proposals for network discovery. Performance evaluation via simulation shows better efficiency in obtaining the information, reducing the total delay in the discovery of candidate networks. |
