Paper Abstract:      Quality of service (QoS) support is emerging as a key factor for delivering multimedia traffic over mobile ad hoc networks. Unfortunately, there are no existing feasible mechanisms to meet the requirement yet. The existing topology-dependent scheduling algorithms suffer from heavy signalling overhead when topology is dynamically changed; topology-transparent scheduling suffers from inflexibility when network size dynamically changes. In this paper, we propose a new topology-transparent scheduling for MANETs which guarantees end-to-end throughput efficiently even when network size varies. Our scheduling algorithm consists of two phases: phase one to choose scheduling parameters carefully therefore minimum throughput can be guaranteed in worst case; in phase two, timeslot assignments are intelligently distributed to different nodes therefore better performance can be achieved when network size is small. It is shown that much higher throughput can be achieved when many nodes are inactive, compared to conventional topology-transparent scheduling.
