Paper Abstract:      The concept of trust in the use of information systems is of current interest resulting in different models. The existing models could be said to fall into human and information technology (IT) dimensions or a combination of these dimensions. This paper attempts to conceptually develop a comprehensive model that classifies antecedents of trust in information systems (IS) into (a) purely human-based, (b) purely IT-based, and (c) a combination of both. The relationship between the antecedents will also be investigated. The paper approaches IS from a socio-technical perspective. The conceptual multidimensional model that is proposed by this paper assesses the boundaries of trust antecedents and their influential factors. The research model is in the context of on-line knowledge sharing in virtual communities which may involve participants (from a few to a few thousands), a variety of technologies (from simple web-based discussion boards to immersive virtual worlds such as Second Life). The paper proposes a subsequent empirical study to validate the research model.
