Paper Abstract:      The mobile phone is the most popular piece of technology among young people, they are among the major consumers of mobile phone technology, and are often considered to be forerunners in its adoption and evolution. Many of them also take part in online social networking activities. Online mobile communities take advantage of these facts. But not only for social applications such systems can be used, also new forms of learning could be adopted especially for those groups who have limited access to traditional education systems. For these marginalised groups alternative forms of educational models in combination with information and communication technologies can be an integrative solution. ComeIn, an ongoing EU funded research project has now set up an online community, offering a learning environment based on videos produced by mobile phones. A pilot study with 98 involved young marginalised people between 14 and 21 years in the UK and in Austria will evaluate its social and technological impacts.
