Paper Abstract:      Our research attempts to synthesize a face based on abstract, sentimental and metaphoric expressions and descriptions, such as "gimlet eye", "piggy nose", and "haggard face." To achieve the objective of our research, we define the "synthesis of a face" as the mapping of a word space into a physical model space. We synthesize individual facial elements by mapping from a word space composed of words that express shapes for each facial element to a physical model space that forms the physical shape of each facial element. When two or more words are used to express a facial feature, we develop a physical model that corresponds to each word and synthesize them by using a computer graphics morphing technique. All the facial features thus obtained are combined to produce the model of an individual’s face.
