Paper Abstract:      Today detecting communities from the Internet is one of the desired technologies for marketing, knowledge retrieval, etc. We propose a method for detecting on-line communities by specifying their characteristics. In the proposed method, characteristics of communities to be detected such as “community members communicate each other about trouble on Oracle database” are described by relations among people and their contents. To detect communities from real data, we developed tools for defining and constructing relations with the data. With the tools, we describe certain communities to be detected in Oracle mailing list of our company, and verify that the communities are detected.
