Paper Abstract:
|
The continuous growth of social media channels such as Facebook, Google+, Twitter or YouTube has also results in increased criminal activities and offences across the World Wide Web. Moreover, new social-media-driven forms of delinquency have come up in the last years, such as mobilizing thousands of people for criminal activities, gathering information using fake profiles or humbling others via popular social networking, microblogging or media sharing sites. Consequently, a clear understanding of these increasing phenomena is needed to elaborate strategies in counteracting social media crime. This paper introduces an integrated categorization model for contemporary crime types in social media including modern forms like social spying, cyber grooming, or crime mobilization. A visual taxonomy with Social Hacking, Social Scamming, Social Insulting and Social Agitating as main clusters is presented to provide a clearer, insightful understanding of the complexities of social media crime. |
