Paper Abstract:
|
Internet today is the basic mean for searching for information almost of any type. It is very difficult though, the user that performs the search, to reach the content that desires or satisfies him/her. This happens mainly due to the lack of existing mechanisms (search and
meta-search ones) to locate the desired material. A second contributing factor, especially to the digital image content related, is the language barrier. Digital images, in contrast to text that has to be extensively reviewed, by nature are very proper e-content material that when been queried the result is language independent. The user can immediately decide if the search was successful, if yes to which extend, and therefore to refine the search. The objective therefore of the ML-Images! Project (A Multilingual Search System for Exploring Large Image Databases), is to create a software platform that will enforce the publishing into the WEB of a specific type of e-content, supporting multilingual search, to foster e-Commerce activities.
In this paper, we will describe the phases of ML-Images! development, the technology that will provide efficient and effective retrieval of still images from digital photo libraries, eliminating or at least substantially reducing the need for manual keyword indexing. |
