Paper Abstract:
|
The Semantic Web is a model proposed by Tim Berners-Lee as an extension of the current web. In order to Semantic Web becomes a reality, applications that provide data structures in accordance to its principles are required. On the other hand, in collaborative learning for elementary school, the collaborations should transcend cohort boundaries, making possible content distribution and students interactions among different cohorts at the same school or different cohorts from other schools. Besides, students should access content and collaborative activities adapted to their needs and educational situation. The use of Semantic Web technologies to help educational activities is relatively recent. Here, we highlight that Semantic Web applications can enable students to work in cooperation in an innovative and personalized way. In this work, we implemented an original collaborative environment for teaching and learning that takes advantage of the Semantic Web standards and principles, favoring the process of teaching and learning. This Semantic Web collaborative environment is based on adaptive collaboration scripts and integrated into a semantically structured framework for the creation of augmented virtual communities of learning. A qualitative case study showed the collaborative environment effectiveness in teaching and learning, as well as demonstrated that an adaptable script, designed according to Semantic Web principles, is a valuable educational tool. |
