Paper Abstract:
|
Conceptual representation is an externalisation produced as a result of a cognitive activity. In this externalisation tacit knowledge is represented in the form of concepts interrelated by appropriate predicates, thus representing thought using propositional units. Such representation can be implemented informally using a graphical form or can be expressed more formally using script notations. Formal script notations are computer tractable, and although can also be visualized in graphical form they are not user friendly. It is this tradeoff between these two forms that complicates this area of work. This paper is an attempt to provide a coherent view that integrates these two perspectives into a single framework, that of a content model, through which the notion of semi-formal representation is introduced. The development of this special type of representation is provided with two guidelines. Domain modeling which, as part of the content model, provides a bench mark for the semi-formal representation and a relationship framework, to keep control over the type of predicates used in the representation. |
