Paper Abstract:
|
In this conceptual article, a 'capability system perspective' to conceptualize a business model (BM) is suggested. First, a theoretical framework is constructed by giving a brief overview of the business model (BM) research and of the Pyramid model (Hirvonen 2022b) - a generic socio-technical framework to conceptualize an organizational capability. The BM is defined to consist of three interdependent elements: Customer Value Proposition (CVP), Capability System (CS), and 'Financial system & Risk exposure'. The 'CS' is conceptualized with the Pyramid model complemented with financial and risk dimensions. Suggested conceptualization is a novel framework for Business Model Innovation (BMI) and IT investment design. The 'capability system perspective' concretizes the role of BM between business strategy and processes and it is expected to be highly valuable in practice. |
