Paper Abstract:      The selection of tools to support organization business processes is a very frequent task. Typically, it comprises the execution of prospecting activities in an ad-hoc way, turning the task very time-consuming and hard to track. On the other hand, the rapid evolution of business scenarios, the increasing demand for traceability in business-IT alignment and the great number of IT solutions available require prospecting activities to be more systematic, traceable and quickly adapted to different scenarios. This work proposes a general and systematic method for evaluating software tools. The method is designed as a business process model, and it is based on analysis and generalization of existing approaches. Models make explicit roles, groups, and their responsibilities, events, details of activities, flows and process interfaces. Hence, software assessors’ tasks are explicit, easy to understand, monitor and trace. We applied our approach in a real scenario that demonstrates its validity and effectiveness.
